Understanding the DSCSA ATP Requirement:

According to DSCSA, members of the pharmacy supply chain must only transact with other Authorized Trading Partners (ATP). The qualifications to become an ATP differ for different members of the supply chain, outlined in detail, here.

To streamline the validation process, the FDA introduced an electronic credentialing system, so that all members of the drug supply chain could more easily ensure they only transacted with compliant partners.

All members of the drug supply chain are required to obtain this credential, as it is required in order to communicate in the various interoperable networks that may be used to track or trace product. The FDA CDER NextGen portal is an example of an interoperable network. (Learn more about CDER NextGen)

DSCSA Compliance Starts with Authorized Trading Partners:

Verifiable Credentials are a digital “precheck” that prove that you’re an Authorized Trading Partner (ATP) under the DSCSA. These fully interoperable credentials comply with FDA guidances and industry standards including PDG, OCI, and NIST identity assurance. By securing your IT systems and preventing criminals from stealing your identity, Verifiable Credentials save you time on your journey to DSCSA compliance.

Electronic Interoperable Tracing

DSCSA requires all trading partners have the ability to transmit data via interoperable network. ATP credentials are required to communicate in these networks. Interoperable networks serve as a standardized mode of communicating information, and improve supply chain security and patient safety.
